MidAmerican Energy Company is well suited to meet the needs of our electric customers with more than 6,600 megawatts of owned and purchased generating capacity. At the end of 2007, our generating capacity was approximately 55 percent fueled by coal; 23 percent natural gas and oil; 10 percent nuclear and 10 percent wind, hydroelectric, biomass and other nonrenewable purchases. Our commitment to environmental responsibility and infrastructure investment includes plans for more wind-powered electric generation in Iowa.

We are ranked No. 1 among rate-regulated utility owners of wind energy installations in the nation and are a leader in increasing the amount of electricity generated from renewable resources.

Production costs at our coal-fueled generation stations are lower than regional and national averages. We also have majority ownership in four of the five jointly owned coal-fueled generating stations in Iowa.
